Project Description

Enabling works and installation of new storage and dispensing robot in the Pharmacy at Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton.

Stone + Partners were engaged to produce drawings and oversee the enabling works and phasing of the scheme, to enable seamless removal of the existing dispensing robot and installation of the new robot including overhead conveyor chutes, a walk-in fridge and temporary storage container to house supplies during the works. The phasing was carefully planned to ensure the least disruption to the operation of the hospital Pharmacy and minimise shut-down periods.

The project engaged closely with the pharmacy staff and the contractor Harris Bros & Collard as well as the suppliers of the dispensing robot (BD) and the specialist furniture (Medspace) to ensure a seamless integration of these elements for the successful operation of the robot.

Project Description

Contemporary metal clad 2-storey extension to an existing Grade II Listed barn conversion, providing additional living accommodation and alfresco dining experience on the first floor terrace (perfect for those summer BBQ’s!).

Amberd Granary is a restored and converted agricultural building , uniquely constructed from both a combination of brick, local stone and timber frame. There are two individual listings, one for the barn itself and one for the walled garden that forms part of our client’s land.

The extension has fundamentally improved the accessibility and visibility to the historic walled garden. The design is sympathetic to its context and suitably subservient to the existing buildings.

The palette of external materials of corrugated metal panels for the walls and roof, together with natural wood doors and windows, were chosen in collaboration with the council’s Heritage Officer to reflect the agricultural nature of the existing buildings.

The selected materials both complement and contrast with those of the main barn, in an appropriate and modest manner.

The original design concept and planning stage drawings are credited to fellow RIBA member Joshua Hancock with detailed design and construction drawings by Stone + Partners.

‘Stone + Partners have steered the project (and us!) very professionally, from start, to the very end, and I can’t thank you enough for what you’ve done.  If anyone asks me for a recommendation of a local architect / project management team, I’ll certainly be recommending you’.
