Our Practice
The practice was founded by Harry Stone in Taunton in 1908 as Stone and Lloyd, and has operated since 1971 as Stone + Partners. Still based in central Taunton, the practice’s experience and range covers much of Somerset and further afield across the southwest.
From our old offices at Billetfield we have recently moved into more modern accommodation in Viney Court, Taunton, developed by Summerfield Developments Ltd (with a little help from us) in 2009, and from where we continue to advise on all aspects of design and construction including site acquisition; planning; project management; listed buildings, conservation and restoration; feasibility studies and budgeting, as we have since 1908.
From schools and colleges to hospitals, medical centres, churches, sports facilities, museums and village halls, many of the public buildings the Practice have designed provide the backdrop to life in the region.
Numerous industrial and commercial buildings, hotels, offices and shops are evidence of Stone + Partners’ contribution to the growth of local businesses. Housing, both in large-scale developments and individual properties, has also been at the heart of our work through the years.
Our Philosophy
We have an experienced team of people who invest time with our clients to gain a clear understanding of their requirements. Once a brief is agreed, we are able to produce options using clear presentations to show a range of possibilities.
We believe good design comes out of collaborative working, between the design team, the client and consultants, in order to achieve the requirements of the brief in a cost effective and timely manner.
Good buildings result from people working well together, sharing a commitment to a common goal. Personal relationships remain fundamental to who we are as Stone + Partners, and these connections are such a key aspect of our collaboration with our colleagues and our service to our clients.
